WINTER SCHEDULE 2012

Session I: January 2 – February 13 (no class Jan 16th)

Session II: February 27 – April 5

For children and adolescent studio groups: Register for two sessions to receive a $15 discount off the second session.  Sibling discount also available.  Discounts will be reflected in the confirmation email, which you will receive before payment is sent.

SNOW CANCELLATION POLICY: In general, FYA follows Melrose Public Schools for snow cancellations.  However, official cancellations will be made by NOON on the home page of the FYA website and on the voice mail.  One snow makeup hour will be offered per session (let’s hope this year no group gets more than one snow cancellation!).

Creative art groups for children

Through age-appropriate art experiences with a variety of media, your child will learn the value of self-expression, build fine-motor, social, and expressive skills while learning the language of art.  Tuition includes supplies, but bring a smock.  AT THIS POINT, ALL GROUPS FOR AGES 5-8 ARE CLOSED FOR SESSION II.  YOU CAN REGISTER FOR A WAIT LIST BY CLICKING ON THE SIGN UP BUTTON.

Tuition: $125 for six weeks

Sensory Discovery

A process-oriented art group for caregivers and toddlers together! Explore toddler-safe art materials perfect for sensory exploration and mess-making that is not in your home! Caregivers learn techniques for promoting creative development.

Tuition: $125 for six weeks (includes supplies)

Open Studio Youth

For ages 9-17: Small, independent groups for self-directed artists wanting to improve drawing, painting, sculpture or design skills. Personal interests and abilities are assessed, personal instruction in specific media offered. Mini-workshop in stone-carving also available for additional supply fee.  AT THIS POINT, ALL STUDIOS FOR AGES 9-16 ARE CLOSED FOR SESSION II. Tuition for Ages 9-16: $125 for six weeks, includes supplies.

Follow Your Art for Adults

(17 and older, younger teens permitted accompanied by parent)

NOTE:  This class WILL RUN beginning February 28th. This class is designed as an introduction to the artistic process for adults wanting to put creative self-expression into their everyday lives. We will explore a combination of two-dimensional and three-dimensional art media (oil and chalk pastels, acrylic and watercolor paint, collage, clay, mixed media) to find what suits you best. Basic instruction on material usage/properties, color theory, elements of design and technique are taught as a means to enhance creative self-expression.

Tuition: $220 for 6 weeks, most supplies included.  Class is 2 hoursTuition includes free access to all open studio hours for those six weeks.

OPEN STUDIO FOR ADULTS: $10 per session.

Open studio originally began as an opportunity for anyone who has taken either the intro class or private sessions to keep an outlet for creative expression.  Artists work independently but are supported by each other and the facilitator when desired.  All are encouraged to bring personal supplies, though supplemental supplies are offered.   Open studios are offered during day and evening times.  Contact for additional information or to reserve a space (limited to 8 artists per night).

NEW BEGINNER OFFERING FOR OPEN STUDIO! If you are new to FYA you can schedule a private/semi-private meeting on any Thursday night at 7:00  to get oriented to the studio and materials, discuss your interests, and get some beginning guidance.  Cost is $40 which includes materials and open studio time.  This is the easiest, low stress way to explore your creativity.

Independent Instruction

Open slots in the schedule are reserved for independent instruction or individual art therapy sessions for children, adolescents or adults, or for contract work in community settings.
